Protesa, a member of the SACMI Group - an international leader in the industrial plant engineering sector, particularly for the ceramic, packaging and food processing industries - was founded in 2002.
Based in Imola, Protesa deals with the development of all-round engineering, business organisation services and quality control. In 2009, the company decided to adopt new 3D digital solutions.

Roberto recounts: ”We approached the 3D world in the virtual sphere from what might appear to be the last link in the chain, but which is, in actual fact, one of the most important parts, i.e. sales and exhibitions.”
“Transporting machines, some of which are hundreds of metres long, to trade fairs is physically very difficult.”
Thanks to 3D, and in particular Autodesk VRED, Protesa has been able to visualise large-scale systems, without the need for the physical presence of the machinery. “For us, the real advantage in VRED was its seamless integration with CAD files, as well as the possibility to import countless formats, and not having to obsessively simplify geometries,” says Roberto.
“We are now in a position to use VRED professionally also in non-machinery areas; such as the nautical and automotive sectors, areas that we have entered mainly due to the extensive use of this platform.”
With the use of Autodesk software, the company has significantly reduced the processing time required to create multimedia content: “Starting with the use of 3d Studio Max, and then progressing to the platform that was the turning point for us, i.e. VRED, up to the use of Maya”.
“The result achieved was a great reduction in time and costs, with the added benefit of reaching a shared solution sooner.”
”We plan to extend the use of Virtual Reality in the everyday design of the products of the future.”
