Politecnico Calzaturiero is the training, services and technology transfer facility of the Riviera del Brenta Footwear District, where footwear of absolute excellence is conceived, designed and produced.
There are over 500 companies in the district, with more than 10,000 employees, and 20 million pairs of shoes are produced each year. From small craft workshops to the production of the big luxury top brands, it is always the exemplary quality of the shoes that gives them their legendary reputation as well as the historical and artistic legacy of the Riviera del Brenta.
We interviewed Mauro Tescaro, Director of the Politecnico Calzaturiero, who is responsible for innovation and training: “Politecnico Calzaturiero was founded in 2001. It has inherited a long footwear tradition that began in 1923 with the Scuola di Design e Tecnica della Calzatura (School of Footwear Design and Technology). Today we are dedicated to training, post-diploma and post-graduate courses, innovation and research, and services for companies in the footwear sector."

“We have been focused on technological innovation since the facility was founded. We have always tried to implement not only 2D technologies, but also 3D technologies, because we were convinced they played a fundamental role in the development of businesses.”
“ICad3D+: this is the name of the 3D software that we have implemented. The company that developed it is Red21, a Spanish company with whom we have been working since 2008. Ever since then our companies have been learning about the advantages to be gained and the importance of adopting this type of solution."
"Today there is so much demand for so many models with so many variations. Being able to use 3D technologies makes it possible to produce a single prototype with the required range of colours and designs."
"One of our goals is not only to keep working on digitalisation, but also on sustainability so as to ensure that our region is the first in the world to produce sustainable footwear."
