Emilio Pucci, an iconic Made-in-Italy company, uses 3D to create virtual prototypes in a matter of clicks to present to the Style Department.

The company Emilio Pucci was founded in 1949 by the eponymous Florentine designer who had a passion for sport and fashion. In actual fact, Pucci became a successful fashion designer after a career as a ski instructor and an Air Force officer. This was thanks to the publication in a famous international magazine of a ski suit that he had designed himself. This prompted the designer to make clothes in bright colours with eye-catching patterns, features that were to distinguish the brand ever after. After his death in 1992, his daughter, Laudomia, took over his role as clothing designer. In 2000, the brand was acquired by the LVMH group.

The Maison is one of the Made-in-Italy symbols, with over 20,000 prints in its archives. The constant search for fabrics, geometrical shapes and colours has given rise to eccentric and decidedly innovative garments, worn by the greatest stars of all time.

We interviewed Silvio Cattarin, Manager of the Emilio Pucci CAD department, who illustrates the company's achievements thanks to the use of the CLO software: “This choice enabled us to obtain immediate results. After only a fortnight, we already had the first models ready to be submitted to the Style Department.”

The digital challenge

After years of research, the company succeeded in finding a solution that could achieve concrete results, rapidly and with minimal effort.

“Thanks to Prisma Tech, CLO software was implemented in the company a year and a half ago. What steered us towards this choice was the need to reduce the time and cost of making prototypes. We also needed to preview the garments to be shown to the Style Department, so that the fit and the prints could be dealt with beforehand." says Silvio Cattarin.

"The implementation of this software enabled us to obtain immediate results. After a fortnight, we already had the first garments ready to present to the Style Department." We achieved in a very short time what we had been seeking for years."

"Before we started using CLO, we were making the same physical garment up to 5 times over, wasting time and material. Now, in just a few seconds, we can convey the idea of the positioning of the prints instantly."

The solution

“We adopted CLO in-house because we felt it was at the cutting edge, compared to the competition's 3D design software. We picked Prisma Tech because we believed that it would be a good partner, able to accompany us step by step in our choices."

Silvio continues: “Before the implementation of CLO we had major problems interpreting the ideas of the Style Department. Designing a sample book full of prints in a 2D format did not convey the idea of what the actual garment would be like. Now we no longer have these kinds of difficulties.”

Thanks to CLO, garments of any kind can be rapidly produced in 3D, the prototype can be shared with the whole team and changes made in real time (directly in CLO) in order to obtain a faithful reproduction of the garment to be made.

The results

“The implementation of this software enabled us to obtain immediate results. After a fortnight, we already had the first garments ready to present to the Style Department." We achieved in a very short time what we had been seeking for years.” Says Cattarin.

CLO is the ideal tool for clothing designers who wish to design innovatively and communicate their ideas clearly and quickly.

“Before we started using CLO, we were making the same physical garment up to 5 times over, wasting time and material. Now, in just a few seconds, we can convey the idea of the positioning of the prints instantly. This allows us to create an exact reproduction of the sample we have imagined." concludes Silvio.

Using the virtual model it is, in fact, possible to assess the look and implement the variations more quickly, with fewer resources. The result obtained is a reduction in prototyping time and costs: fewer physical prototypes are created and modifications are made more quickly.

This software is compatible with any existing 2D CAD and allows stylists, designers and pattern makers to work together.

3D is not simply a working tool but a new language of communication, useful for the whole team.
