3D design software enables the creation of functional and durable furniture components

Arrital is a company that has been manufacturing kitchens since 1979. The company has always invested in product industrialisation and technology. Thanks to the quality and design of its products, Arrital has won numerous international awards, becoming one of the leading companies in its field. The company has always focused on aesthetics, functionality and sustainability to create innovative kitchens in line with the brand philosophy. For the company, the future means being open to cross-fertilisation and innovation, but its production capacity is also based on effective resource management and leading-edge customer service. This results in the design and manufacturing of products that distinguish Arrital on the market. We interviewed Christian Russo, Technical Manager, who explained how the technologies put in place have brought significant economic and qualitative advantages to the company.

The digital challenge

Its tireless search for innovative technologies for the design of complex products, tailor-made for its clientele, has prompted the company’s decision to purchase state-of-the-art software. ”The decision to adopt 3D technologies was mandatory in a market of increasingly complex products." sustains Russo.

“The partnership with Prisma Tech was the fruit of strong empathy and knowledge of the furniture industry. This enabled us to develop together the project we have been working on in recent years.” The Technical Manager continues. The technologies chosen to meet the company's needs are the Product Design & Manufacturing Collection and the Woodwork for Inventor software. The Collection contains, in a single package for the furniture industry, all the tools needed to optimise design and production. Woodwork is the CAD/CAM software for designing furniture or other products made of wood. Ideal for manufacturers of furniture made of various materials or personalised, and for those who create complex designs.

"3D has significantly reduced the development time required to complete designs and the number of mistakes that could be made by the production department in interpreting paper drawings, which was our practice until a year ago."

The solution

To meet these design challenges, the company decided to install 3D technologies and implement new design methods. Christian Russo recounts: “The choice fell on Autodesk products, specifically Inventor. It has always proven to be a flexible product suited for initial design. This software has allowed us to implement a whole series of product industrialisation data, and hence to draft and generate other important and sensitive data for the company.” The possibility provided by this tool to share the designs with everyone involved and to collect feedback anywhere, anytime increases design efficiency and the accuracy of the drawings.

“The main feature of Woodwork software is CAM, which allows us to transform IPT Inventor files into CNC machine files.” says Stefano Battistuzzi, Senior Designer. “With this tool, design becomes more effective and accurate, allowing the designer to focus more on the creative part. “Learning this technology was easy, thanks also to the tips provided by the Prisma Tech technicians during the training sessions held in the company.” concludes Battistuzzi.

The results

Christian Russo says: “The advantages gained from the partnership with Prisma Tech have been crucial in allowing us to accelerate and reduce design development time, something that could only be achieved previously through the creation of a prototype.” To achieve maximum effectiveness from these technologies, proper training of the technical team is essential. To this end, Prisma Tech provides companies with specific courses and consulting for each requirement and sector, in order to optimise all the company’s resources. “The active training and services provided enabled us to produce a number of rapid prototypes, also with the use of 3D printers.” sustains Russo. “All special requests that our customers make to us, for heavily customised products, are taken on board and the products are then designed completely in 3D (with Inventor) and imported into Woodwork. And thanks to Woodwork, we can make the CAD/CAM conversion." The Technical Manager continues. “This has significantly reduced the development time required to complete designs and the number of mistakes that could be made by the production department in interpreting paper drawings, which was our practice until a year ago.” concludes Russo. The transition to this new package of tools for product design and engineering has led to a total transformation of the entire business process.
