3D design software improves corporate product development processes

Armony is an Italian company with almost 50 years of experience.

Armony kitchens are manufactured in state-of-the-art production plants, where waste is minimised and precision is maximised, and where human expertise always makes the difference.

We interviewed company Directors Lucia Zuin and Philippe Cellier, who say:

“Research and innovation have resulted in a sample book with more than two hundred different finishes: a harmony of exclusive materials that are a delight to see and touch. The spirit of modernity is expressed in total personalisation which is embodied in flexible design where every need can be freely indulged.”

The digital challenge

We interviewed Attilio Carlet, Technical Manager of Armony Cucine, who explains: "The first reason that prompted the company to approach 3D parametric technology was the contract sector. In contrast with mass production, the Contract Department has to develop the work plan on the basis of the customer's demands and requirements, so: design, precision, calculation all in an extremely short time in order to be able to present a final design project that best expresses all the distinguishing features and soul of Armony.”

Attilio continues: “The complications that we would come up against before concerned problems inherent to the designing of new elements, (and the information that had to be relayed to the production machinery), the availability of costs and time frames, which often turned out to be lengthy, creating difficulties for us.”

"The combination of software and personalisation has enabled Armony to radically change the process for developing new products and managing documentation."

"Thanks to the Autodesk solutions, it was simple to process the coding, publishing and management of all the documents produced."

The solution

"First and foremost, the company adopted the Autodesk Inventor software, a three-dimensional modelling tool, chosen because it was among the best available on the market.  After that, we adopted the Woodwork plug-in which, in perfect symbiosis with Inventor, simplifies the processes involved in the development of kitchen furniture. Woodwork with the addition of the CAD-CAM plug-in has made it possible to have a direct dialogue with the machine tools in the production department. According to the technical manager, who continues:

“Once these compatible programmes were combined, it was easy to process the coding, publishing and management of all the documents produced. Subsequent integration with the company's management systems completed the total processing of the data, which was therefore placed at the disposal of all the company departments; the programming work carried out by Prisma Tech through Vault thus enabling a two-way, automated dialogue.”

Attilio concludes: “In order to produce kitchen furniture, Armony has to handle a large amount of data. The information arriving from the different departments all has to be integrated and updated in real time. Prisma Tech already has suites and programmes to deal with these issues. The programming team brought added value to the project through their ability to personalise and adapt these software packages on the basis of Armony’s requirements and for the fundamental transition to 3D design.”

The results

The combination of software and personalisation has enabled Armony to radically change the process for developing new products and managing documentation. Now, thanks to Vault's contribution, design projects are shared between departments and can be screened by company managers and even shared with the customers themselves.” Says Attilio
