Imperial Fashion, a leading fast-fashion clothing manufacturer, uses 3D to respond rapidly to consumer needs and produce new trends in real time.

Imperial was founded in 1978, fruit of the brilliant insight of entrepreneurs Adriano Aere and Emilia Giberti, pioneers of the production process now known as fast-fashion.

Since then, the brand's fame and its proud Made-in-Italy production have grown steadily, and the company now has a staff of more than 300 employees and a distribution network of 1,500 single-brand and multi-brand shops worldwide.

We interviewed Luca Lazzari, Production Manager, and Angelo Mastri, Men/Women's Pattern Maker.

The digital challenge

The owners' continuous search for innovative solutions has enabled us to develop systems that are increasingly more complex and technologically advanced.

"We looked at several 3D solutions, but CLO impressed us because of its ease of use and the possibility to set up the whole supply chain: from pattern-making to style, via the sales department.” recounts Luca Lazzari.

Angelo Mastri continues: "I was surprised by the simplicity and speed with which the garments could be made. We started working on the 3D project right away, achieving results that were unexpected for me, right from the first weeks."

"Thanks to CLO we can modify volumes, lengths and details directly within the software in real time. What we used to do manually can now be done entirely in 3D."

The solution

Thanks to the feature of being able to work simultaneously in 2D and 3D, the virtual prototype can be modified already during the design phase, thereby speeding up the workflow.

"To date we have three CLO workstations in the patterns department. This programme has enabled us to make decisions faster and with a very low margin of error. We work closely with the fashion designers and using the 2D part, we can modify volumes, lengths and details directly within the software in real time. What we used to do manually can now be done entirely in 3D." says Angelo Mastri, Men/Women’s Pattern maker.

The results

The implementation of 3D makes it possible to reduce time-to-market and experiment with multiple pattern variations without having to use any physical material. Virtual prototyping is, in fact, an important resource to make the design phase more sustainable.

"In a nutshell, we have shortened the design time considerably, optimised the end result and reduced errors practically to zero." says Angelo Mastri, Men/Women’s Pattern maker.
